How to get to the orthodox cemetery :

By car : From Paris Porte d'Orléans, take A6 Highway, direction Lyon. Exit at Viry-Chatillon, Fleury-Merogis.
Take the road to Fleury, direction Arpajon. Turn right at the 2nd roundabout: RN 296. Turn left into "rue Léo Lagrange" and left "rue Jacques Duclos".

By bus : CEA bus, 58 boulevard Saint-Jacques (Denfert Rochereau); direction Ste-Geneviève-des-Bois. Open as of 8 am; general enquiries :

underground RER C : get off at Saint-Michel-sur-Orge, and then walk a little more than half a mile, or get off at Ste-Geneviève-des-Bois and take bus no.103 or 104.


The cemetery originates from the welcome given to Russian immigrants at Cossonorie castle following the 1917 revolution. These same immigrants were buried in the local cemetery from 1926.
Currently numbering more than 4,000 graves, it provides the final resting places for Serge Lifar, Prince Youssoupov, Bounine, the winner of the 1933 Nobel Peace prize, and film director André Tarkovski, to name but a few of the celebrities buried there.
